GLASS DISPLAY CASE
This glass case was designed and fabricated for a residential client who resides in a large Brooklyn loft and wanted to display a portion of his extensive art collection. The brief called for maximum transparency to allow light from windows and skylights to flow through and keep unobstructed views.
Larry Shvets and his staff at Crystal Glass & Mirror were instrumental to this project for their “can do attitude”, extensive knowledge and incredibly fast turnaround from tech drawing delivery to completion; only two weeks!
Due to evolving parameters the design changed accordingly. Few existing hinges strong enough to support the weight of the doors were available. Some glass shower hinges could have worked, but were to recognizable as such and would detract from the overall design. Instead, the hardware was custom designed and precision machined.
Except for the bottom panel at 1/2”, the case was made with 3/8” glass and UV bonded. Low iron glass was chosen for maximum clarity. Due to its close to 600 lb. weight, it was mounted on six total lock casters. The shelf supports are positionable in 6” increments. Aside from the wheels and magnetic latches, all hardware was custom made in aluminum and stainless steel.
